Mamdani Says Trump Agreed to Grant Visa to Mother of Teen Shot Dead in the Bronx

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said President Donald Trump has agreed to grant an expedited visa to the Ghanaian mother of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old shot dead in the Bronx on Oct. 29. New York City police said Frimpong was heading to school shortly before 9:30 a.m. when he was shot in the abdomen. He died at a hospital. Police are looking for three teenage suspects, last seen in all black and medical masks, running south into Crotona Park. No arrests have been made and the investigation continues. Mamdani wrote on X that he had just spoken by phone with Trump, who agreed to grant the visa immediately so the mother, who is in Ghana, could say goodbye to her son in person. He added that all of New York City is mourning. U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., said Frimpong came from Ghana a year ago to live with his father. Outlets said they asked the White House for comment.
