Bodum recalls nearly 6 million French press coffee makers over glass carafe burn risk

Bodum USA is recalling 5.9 million French press coffee makers because their glass carafes can break during use and cause burns, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The company issued the recall on Oct. 29 after receiving 70 reports of carafes breaking, 48 of which involved burns to consumers. The carafes can unexpectedly break if damaged or cracked, including when a metal spoon is used to stir coffee, so customers were told not to use metal utensils. The coffee makers were sold on Amazon.com, at Target, Walmart and other stores from 1974 through October 2026. The recall covers 8-cup and 12-cup models, including Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya, under recall number 27-055. Bodum USA, the American unit of a Danish-Swiss coffee hardware company, said breakage reports are extremely rare given decades of sales, and a customer service representative told CBS News no refunds are being offered.
